Sioux City Musketeers News Release

Lincoln, NE - After a week off the Musketeers were in Lincoln on Friday night to take on the Stars. There wasn't much offense in this one but Lincoln found just enough to pull out a 2-1 victory in overtime.

The Musketeers knew this game would be tough after a week off and playing without Bobby Brink, Parker Ford, and Luke Johnson and there was no doubt a little rust for the Musketeers at the start of the game. Both teams struggled to find any kind of sustained offensive pressure in the period but Lincoln would strike first thanks to a bit of puck luck. Grant Johnson took a shot that looked to change direction a couple times before bouncing past Ben Kraws to give the Stars a 1-0 lead that they would take into the locker room.

Neither team found the back of the net in the 2nd period, but the Musketeer penalty kill came up strong killing off two penalties in the period.

Sioux City would finally find the back of the net early in the 3rd thanks to a rocket from Marcus Kallionkieli. He wired a shot just up and over Tyler Johnson to tie the game up at one at the 2:57 mark of the 3rd period. Jack Babbage had the assist on the play. Sioux City would get a big opportunity later in the period after Lincoln was issued a 5 minute major for boarding. The Musketeers were unable to convert on the powerplay and this one would eventually head to overtime.

In OT Sioux City would get called for too many men just under a minute into the frame giving the Stars big opportunity and they took advantage. Josiah Slavin lifted a rebound over a sprawling Kraws to give Lincoln the 2-1 victory.

Despite the loss, Musketeers extended their point streak to 11 games.

The Musketeers will have to shake this one off quickly as they prepare for a big matchup with the Stampede tomorrow night. Puck drop is set for 7:05 pm.
