Sims, Lawal Lead Energy Past Wizards

BISMARCK, ND - Center Courtney Sims scored 30 points and Phoenix Suns assignee Gani Lawal added 22 points and 13 rebounds as the Iowa Energy defeated the Dakota Wizards 113-92 Friday night in Bismarck. In their four year history, the Energy are undefeated in season openers.

Iowa (1-0) jumped out to a 62-45 halftime lead as Othyus Jeffers scored all 20 of his points before the break. Iowa led 57-45 with seven seconds left in the half when guard Shyron Ely made a layup to make it 59-45. Energy guard Kyle Weaver stole the Wizards' inbounds pass and drained a three-pointer to extend Iowa's lead to 17.

Dakota rallied in the 2nd half as a Dominique Scales basket cut Iowa's lead to 78-75 with 9:51 remaining in the game. The Energy responded with a 20-6 run including two three-pointers by Michael Haynes to put the game away.

Point guard Curtis Stinson had 11 assists on the night while Jeffers added 10 rebounds for the victors.

Dakota (0-1) was led by Darren Cooper, who finished with 23 points.

The Energy outrebounded Dakota 51-35 on the night.
