
Sims and Lawal Lead Way For Energy

Bismarck, ND - Courtney Sims and Phoenix Suns assignee Gani Lawal lead the way for the Iowa Energy (1-0) as they defeat the Dakota Wizards (0-1) 113-92 in the Wizards home opener at the Bismarck Civic Center. Sims scored 27 points and Lawal recorded a double-double with 22 points and 13 rebounds.
The Wizards ended the first quarter on a 13-5 run and trailed 28-24 at the end of the first quarter. Iowa, on 20 first half points by Othyus Jeffers, went into the locker room at halftime leading 62-45 on a three pointer by Kyle Weaver after he stole the inbounds pass.
Dakota mounted a comeback early in the fourth quarter and cut the lead to 78-75 on a Dominique Scales layup. The Energy responded with a 20-6 run that included two big three-pointers by Michael Haynes to put the game out of reach.
The Energy owned the boards tonight as they outrebounded the Wizards by a 51-23 margin.
Dakota was led by guard Darren Cooper with 23 points.
The same two teams will face off tomorrow in Des Moines as Dakota will look for payback in the Energy's home opener.
