Mississippi RiverKings News Release
(Corpus Christi, TX) - Goaltender Tyler Sims fashioned the Mississippi RiverKings' first shut out of the season in claiming his first win of the year, as Mississippi edged the IceRays in Corpus Christi 1-0 on Saturday night. Sims made 34 saves in improving his season record to 1-2-0.
The only goal of the game came in the second period, when Dallas Costanzo scored his fourth goal of the season, assisted by Andrew Lackner and Matt Pierce at the 14:06 mark of the frame. The RiverKings held on to the lead into the locker room at the end of the second period of play.
There would be no further scoring, as Sims slammed the door on any further scoring chances by the IceRays.
Mississippi was out shot for the game 34-31, with losing goaltender Dustin Traylen (2-4-0) making 30 saves for the IceRays.
Neither team scored on the power play. The RiverKings finished 0-for-8 on the power play and Corpus Christi finished 0-for-7.
With the win, the RiverKings moved to 11-8-0 for the season. They finished the southern swing of their season-long eight-game road trip with a 4-2-0 record. Mississippi also moved into a second-place tie with Bossier-Shreveport, both with 22 points.
Next up for the RiverKings will be their first-ever visit to play in South Dakota, when the RiverKings meet the expansion Rapid City Rush on Friday and Saturday, December 5th and 6th.
The next home games for the RiverKings will be December 12th and 13th in a two-game set against the Texas Brahmas at the DeSoto Civic Center in Southaven, beginning at 7:05 PM each night.
