Simmons, Ward Homer as Claws Win 3rd Straight Game

WINSTON-SALEM, NC - Kendall Simmons and Nick Ward homered and the BlueClaws held off Winston-Salem 7-5 on Sunday afternoon at Truist Stadium to win their third straight game.
The BlueClaws (45-44), who had dropped four in a row heading into Friday's game, took the final three games of the series at Winston-Salem and finished their road trip at 4-5.
Kendall Simmons opened the scoring with a solo home run in the bottom of the first. It was his sixth home run of the year and first since he returned from the injured list on Friday. Marcus Lee Sang added an RBI single in the second inning to give Jersey Shore a 2-0 lead.
The BlueClaws began to pour it on in the sixth. Andrick Nava hit a two run double to make it 4-0. Then later in the inning, Nick Ward smashed his 8th home run of the year over the right-centerfield wall to give the BlueClaws a 7-0 lead.
The Dash scored three unearned runs in the seventh and another run in the eighth to cut the lead to 7-4. They added another in the ninth off Rodolfo Sanchez, who was able to shut the door and earn his first save of the season.
Simmons and Nava each had two hits in the win.
Starter Mitch Neunborn went three scoreless innings for the BlueClaws. Carlos Betancourt (3-3) earned the win with 1.2 scoreless innings.
The BlueClaws are off Monday and will play their next 12 games at ShoreTown Ballpark beginning with a six game series with Aberdeen that kicks off Tuesday night.
