
Silvertips Rookies Shining This Season

The Everett Silvertips entered the 2004-2005 season with 12 first year players. Currently the Silvertips have three of them ranked in the top 15 in rookie scoring in the Western Hockey League.
Right now the top North American rookie scoring leader in the WHL is Silvertips forward Zach Hamill. The Port Coquitlam, B.C. native has impressed many with his poise and play making ability as a 16 year old playing in his first full season in the WHL. Hamill is ranked 3rd overall in rookie scoring and 2nd on the Silvertips hockey club with 5 goals and 16 assists for 21 points. The Silvertips 1st round selection (3rd overall) in the 2003 WHL Bantam Draft also is tied for the team lead with a +9 rating and the team leader with 16 assists. Already this season, Hamill has registered two or more points in 7 games. Hamill will represent Team Pacific in the 2004 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge in Lethbridge, Alberta during the Christmas break.
Silvertips forward Karel Hromas has shown hard work does pay off in his first season in the WHL. The Beroun, Czech Republic resident is currently 10th among WHL rookies with 13 points (9 goals, 4 assists). Hromas the Chicago Black Hawks 4th Round Selection in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft is 3rd on the Silvertips hockey club with 9 goals and tied for 6th in points. Hromas recently was chosen to play for his home country of the Czech Republic for the 2nd year in a row at the 2005 World Junior Championships in North Dakota over the holiday break.
Kelowna, B.C. native Brady Calla has brought many traits to the Silvertips with his strong skating and great work ethic. Calla was drafted by the Silvertips in the 4th round in the 2003 WHL Bantam Draft and is currently 14th in WHL rookie scoring with 12 points (5 goals, 7 assists). Calla is also tied with Hamill for the team high in +/- with a +9 rating. Calla will represent Team Pacific in the 2004 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge in a few weeks.
Another bright spot for the Silvertips has been rookie goaltender Leland Irving. The Swan Hills, Alberta native has relieved Silvertips starting netminder Michael Wall in 8 games this season. Currently Irving has posted a 5-3 record with a 1.63 goals against average and a .938 save percentage. The Silvertips 5th round selection (81st overall) in the 2003 WHL Bantam Draft will represent Team Pacific along with Hamill and Calla at the 2004 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.
The Silvertips will hit the road this weekend against two U.S. Division foes. On Friday, December 10, Everett will battle the Portland Winter Hawks at the Rose Garden. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. On Saturday, December 11, the Silvertips will face off against the Spokane Chiefs at the Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena in Spokane, Washington. The puck will drop at 7:00 p.m.
