Everett Silvertips News Release

EVERETT, Wash. - Back home in front of 6,678 at AOTW Arena, the Everett Silvertips were ready to put on a show. It was a critical matchup for the Silvertips, as they would be taking on the top team in the US Division, the Portland Winterhawks. In the first meeting since December 13th, Everett overcame a 2-0 deficit to beat Portland 4-3 for the first time this season and secured a substantial two points over the #2 ranked team in the CHL.

Bryce Kindopp led the Tips with first star honors and a two goal effort while goaltender Dustin Wolf turned in a 32 save effort for the victory. Brendan Lee and Jackson Berezowski also notched Tips goals late in the second period and third period, respectively.

In a matchup between two CHL top ten teams, the Tips snapped the Winterhawks incredible 19-0-1-1 streak and handed Portland their first loss in regulation since Nov. 4. UP NEXT: Everett hits the road for three games in three nights next week but will return home for Feb. 14 when they take on the Seattle Thunderbirds at 7:35pm. It's Union Solidarity Night and Hockey Happy Hour, which means that fans can save $15 with a ticket/drink combo pack. The Tips return to play Friday, Feb. 7 at Tri-City, opening at 7:05 p.m. (KRKO / Tips App).

There was no scoring in the first period but it was still eventful. Shots were 11-9 for Portland in the opening 20 but it was an even game from the get-go. Both Joel Hofer for Portland and Dustin Wolf made some outstanding saves for each other's respective squad but no one could find the back of the net. It was the first time Everett had been held scoreless in the first period since January 22.

Things got interesting in the second period when Portland jumped out to an early 2-0 lead thanks to Jonas Brondberg at 1:59 and a pretty between the legs top-shelf score by Jake Gricius, shorthanded at 7:20. The Silvertips wouldn't fold, however, as Bryce Kindopp scored just nineteen seconds after Gricius. The power play tally from Kindopp was his 31st of the season and cut the Silvertips deficit to just one. As the period was winding down, Brendan Lee found the loose puck in front on Portland netminder Joel Hofer and evened it at two apiece with 2:10 left.

We were now heading into a crucial final period with the teams at two and valuable two points at stake.

Entering the last twenty minutes, Wyatte Wylie took matters into his own hand, scoring just twenty-two seconds into the final frame, but not without review. After video review, a deflected shot by Jackson Bereowski, off Wylie's blast from the right circle, was upheld and Everett found themselves ahead 3-2 just 22 seconds into period three.

At the 9:16 mark of the third, Bryce Kindopp would score his second of the night, as he cut in front of Joel Hofer and squeeze it past the keeper and make it a 4-2 lead. While Johnny Ludvig would make it a 4-3 Everett lead at 14:38 on a power play goal, it was too little, too late as Everett would skate off to a victory against the top team in the US Division and two points.

GAME NOTES: Scratched from tonight's game were Kasper Puutio, Dawson Butt, and Gianni Fairbrother... Dustin Wolf won his third straight game and now leads the WHL in both GAA (1.98) and SV% (0.936)... Bryce Kindopp is now third in the WHL in goals with 32 on the season, surpassing Josh Winquist for third all time in Tips goals (102) ... the Tips improved to 6-0-1 in the last seven games.

SOG: Portland 35, Everett 23
