New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
(Manchester, NH)-Moises Sierra hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the first inning, but New Britain rallied for a 9-2 win in the opening game of a four-game series at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium on Monday night.
In the last of the first inning, Adeiny Hechavarria doubled and Sierra took an 0-1 pitch out to left field for his second home run to put the Fisher Cats up 2-0.
That would be all that New Britain starter Liam Hendricks (1-1) and reliever Cole DeVries would allow in the contest. Hendricks worked the first six innings, allowing two runs on four hits. He walked one and struck out three. DeVries worked the final innings scoreless, with six strikeouts to pick up his second save.
New Britain (9-6) got on the board in the top of the fourth inning on a solo home run by Yangervis Solarte (3-for-5, HR, 2 RBI, 3 R). His first homer of 2011 cut the New Hampshire lead to 2-1.
The Rock Cats surged to the lead in the top of the sixth inning. Steve Singleton (3-for-5, 3 2B) led off with a double, ending the night for New Hampshire starter Joel Carreno. Reliever Ron Uviedo (0-1) then walked Joe Benson. Ray Chang and Solarte followed with RBI singles to put New Britain up 3-2. After Deibinson Romero walked, Allen de San Miguel singled home two more to make it 5-2.
New Britain added three more runs in the seventh. Chris Parmalee doubled home Singleton, who had doubled, to make it 6-2. Parmalee scored from third on a bunt single by Marc Dolenc and Romero singled home Solarte, who had reached on a fielders choice.
Joe Benson homered for the Rock Cats in the eighth inning for a 9-2 lead.
New Hampshire (9-6) starter Carreno worked the first five innings, allowing five hits and two runs. He did not walk a batter and struck out six.
