Siemer Assists Twice in Narrow Defeat to Huntsville

Macon Mayhem News Release

In a back-and-forth contest to close out the weekend in Huntsville, the Mayhem tied the score twice but ultimately fell by a 4-2 result at Von Braun Center.

The Mayhem dictated the tempo early, generating the game's first five shots on net. As the first period went on, Huntsville was able to tip the scales in their favor. Eventually, they struck on a power play as red-hot defenseman Peter Sikalis rocketed a one-timer from the right circle to beat Ian Sylves inside the left post, giving the Havoc a 1-0 lead.

Shortly into period two, the Mayhem found themselves on a 57-second long 5-on-3 penalty kill. Justin Levac and the penalty killers held their ground, holding the Havoc attackers off the score sheet and keeping their team within a goal.

Jake Trask and John Siemer spearheaded a counterattack into the Huntsville zone. From behind the Havoc net, Siemer fed Kristaps Bazevics a pass in the slot. The defenseman released a shot and beat Max Milosek to tie the game for Macon. However, just 17 seconds later, Sikalis scored his fourth goal of the weekend after a fluky carom on the left side of the net. His tally reinstated Huntsville's lead and slowed Macon's momentum.

Just five seconds into the closing stanza, Nick Minerva scored his first goal of the season. Siemer set him up in the slot with a crisp pass from the left half wall, notching his second primary assist on the night in the process.

The tie game again was short-lived, as Huntsville had an answer 4:40 after Minerva's goal. Former Mayhem forward John Schiavo capitalized off a defensive zone breakdown in the Mayhem zone and buried his sixth goal of the season from the left wing, giving the home side a 3-2 advantage. Leo Thomas called his timeout and pulled Sylves for a sixth attacker in the closing minutes, but the Havoc's Kyle Sharkey iced the game with an empty-net goal from the red line in front of the benches.

Sylves turned aside 37 of the 40 shots he faced, but was still charged with his eighth regulation defeat of the season. Milosek countered with a 26/28 save performance, earning his 16th victory. The Mayhem will host the Birmingham Bulls on Thursday and the Fayetteville Marksmen on Friday and Saturday. Thursday will be College Night presented by Ann Parman Law Firm, with $8 tickets for college students and $10 general admission available, as well as an All You Can Eat package for $35. Friday will be Princess Night and Saturday will be Pucks N Paws Night. Click here to register your wiener dog for the races!
