HUNTSVILLE - The Havoc opened a weekend two-game series against the Macon Mayhem by scoring three goals in each of the first two periods and cruising to a 6-3 win. It's the second consecutive game where Huntsville put six in the net on home ice.
The team was led by defenseman Peter Sikalis, who scored two goals in Friday night's game - his second multi-goal game of the year.
"I'm really pleased with our effort and execution tonight," said Havoc Head Coach Glenn Detulleo. "We kept our intensity and focus for a full 60 minutes and were rewarded with an important win and two points in the standings."
The win keeps Huntsville (25-14-2) in third place and moves the team an additional two points ahead of the Mayhem (22-15-5) at fourth in the SPHL standings.
The Havoc got on the board 91 seconds in to the game when Pat Condon sniped a shot through traffic at the top of the slot to put the home team up early.
Sikalis scored his first goal just shy of 7 minutes in to the first period when he one-timed a puck rolling around the boards to double the Havoc lead. Nine minutes later, he scored his second during a powerplay by cleaning up a rebound from just in front of the crease.
Macon's Jake Trask took matters in to his own hands later in the period by matching Sikalis' output - scoring two goals just 2:15 apart to get the Mayhem within striking distance. Huntsville held a slim 3-2 lead at the first intermission.
At the top of the second period, the home squad picked up right where they left off. Sy Nutkevitch followed up a rebound of his own shot with a quick wrister through the Mayhem keeper's pads to give Huntsville another two-goal cushion just 82 seconds in to the period.
At 6:44 in the middle frame, Colton Wolter skated swiftly around the back of the Macon goal and tried to slip in the wrap-around, but Trevor Gerling was there to finish off the shot and increase the Huntsville lead.
Kyle Sharkey capped the Havoc scoring by utilizing a screen by Christian Powers on a powerplay and shooting past the Macon keeper while skating through the left face-off circle.
Macon scored a powerplay goal with just over a minute left in the second period to make the score 6-3 at the second break, but neither team could light the lamp in the third period and the 4,329 fans went home happy with a win against a strong opponent.
Sikalis has six goals on the season thus far, out distancing his mark last season when he scored five.
Sharkey has a four-game point streak going (2g, 3a).
The keepers for both sides made 35 saves on the night.
Tyler Piacentini recorded two assists and extended his point streak to four games (4g, 2a).
Next Games
The Havoc host the Macon Mayhem for the rematch on Saturday, February 23, for the 9th annual Wiener Dog Races on Pharmacy First Ice at the Von Braun Center. Puck drops for the game at 7 and the canines will race for top dog at the first intermission.
