Biloxi Shuckers News Release
BILOXI, MS - The Biloxi Shuckers (8-11) were held to one run and surrendered three home runs in a 4-1 defeat against the Pensacola Blue Wahoos on Tuesday night at MGM Park.
RHP Bowden Francis (L, 3-1) got the start for the Shuckers and pitched well but surrendered three solo home runs during his outing. The righty lasted into the sixth inning, striking out a season-best 10 over 5.2 innings.
For the Blue Wahoos, RHP Max Meyer (W, 2-1) limited the Shuckers traffic on the bases. Biloxi's best chance to score early came in the fourth inning. Trailing 4-0, Jamie Westbrook tripled to straightaway center, but was stranded as Meyer notched one of his three strikeouts of the night and induced a groundout to end the frame.
Biloxi finally broke through in the seventh. Mitch Longo dropped a double into left field and Chad Spanberger singled him home, bringing the Shuckers within three at 4-1. Cam Devanney was hit by a pitch to bring the tying run to the plate, but Ryan Aguilar struck out to strand both runners.
In the bottom of the ninth, Payton Henry reached to start the frame on an error by Nick Lovello, and RHP Colton Hock (S, 4) walked Devanney and Aguilar with two outs, setting the stage for Tristen Lutz to bat as the winning run. Hock induced a groundout from Lutz, though, ending the game.
The series continues Wednesday night with a 6:35 pm first pitch at MGM Park. LHP Ethan Small (1-1, 5.25) takes the hill for Biloxi opposite Blue Wahoos' LHP Jake Eder (1-1, 6.00).
