Biloxi Shuckers News Release
PENSACOLA, FL - The Biloxi Shuckers (53-47, 19-12) were limited to one run and six hits in an 8-1 loss against the Pensacola Blue Wahoos (59-40, 18-13) at Blue Wahoos Stadium on Friday night. The loss split the first four games of the series between the two teams, but the Shuckers stayed a game up on Pensacola for the South Division lead in the second half.
Shuckers' starter Carlos Rodriguez started hot, retiring the first six batters in order, and allowing one ball out of the infield over the first two innings. In the third, Cody Morissette and Bennett Hostetler both tallied singles for Pensacola, and Dalvy Rosario drove in Morisette with a sacrifice fly to left for the first run of the night. After a walk and a wild pitch, José Devers gave the Blue Wahoos a 3-0 lead with a two-RBI single to center.
From there, Rodriguez retired seven of the next nine batters, including a perfect fourth inning. It marked his ninth straight start allowing three runs or less and was his fifth start out of the last six with at least five innings.
For the Blue Wahoos, starter Jonathan Bermúdez worked around three hits and two walks, stranding six baserunners over six shutout innings of work. In the bottom of the sixth, Morissette extended the lead with a two-out RBI double. Bennett Hostetler and Dalvy Rosario then hit back-to-back home runs, extending the lead to 7-0.
The Shuckers got on the board with a leadoff, 404-foot home run from Ethan Murray in the seventh. Pensacola matched the homer with one of their own, a solo shot from Griffin Conine, in the bottom of the inning. Eli Villalobos then worked around two hits for two scoreless innings out of the Blue Wahoos bullpen to finish it out.
Bermudez (3-3) earned the win for the Blue Wahoos while Rodriguez (6-4) took the loss for Biloxi.
Florida native Tobias Myers will start for Biloxi on Saturday night against righty M.D. Johnson for Pensacola. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. at Blue Wahoos Stadium.
The game can be heard on Cruisin' WGCM 1240 AM, 100.9 FM with coverage beginning at 5:50 p.m. with the Biloxi Shuckers Pregame Show. The game can also be seen live on MiLB.tv.
