Biscuits Fall Short Against M-Braves, 5-3

PEARL, Miss. - It was a game of catch-up for the Biscuits (52-48), but they were unable to chase down the Mississippi Braves (45-54) during a 5-3 defeat on Friday night at Trustmark Park.

Sean Hunley's (2-4) 15th Double-A start of the season did not open as planned with Jesse Franklin V recording a three-run home run in the bottom of the first inning. However, Hunley was able to settle down as the righty allowed only three more hits in his final three innings pitched.

Montgomery was unable to find early success against Nolan Kingham (2-0) with only two hits to show over the first three innings, but the Butter and Blue finally broke through in the fourth with an RBI-single from Mason Auer to make the score 3-1.

Action resumed in the top of the sixth when Tanner Murray brought in his first RBI of the game with a single and put the Biscuits within striking distance. With one out in the frame, momentum flamed out as Kingham forced two crucial outs to keep the score at 3-2.

Mississippi extended their lead in the seventh when Cody Milligan scored on a wild pitch from Antonio Menendez, but Murray neutralized the run with an RBI-double in the next frame to keep Montgomery within a run.

Cal Conley fired a line drive into center field during the bottom of the eighth and brought in Cade Bunnell to make the score 5-3 for the Braves. Ty Tice took the mound in the ninth and struck out the side to clinch a defeat for the Biscuits. Kingham earned the win and Tice earned the save while Hunley recorded his fourth loss of the season.

The Biscuits and the Braves enter the penultimate matchup of the series on Saturday, August 5 with first pitch set for 6:05 PM CT. The featured pitching matchup pits Victor Muñoz (7-6) for Montgomery against Luis De Avila (5-6) for Mississippi.

The next homestand is set for August 8, as Montgomery will take on the Birmingham Barons.
