GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Greensboro Grasshoppers failed to hold a lead for the second straight night and eventually lost to the Delmarva Shorebirds 7-5 in 10 innings Thursday night at First Horizon Park.

The loss was the fourth straight for the Hoppers, who dropped to 12-15 in the second half of the South Atlantic League season. They also slid to 49-50 on the season, the first time they've been below .500 since May 14 (17-18).

Greensboro built a 4-1 lead through five innings but Delmarva came back to take a 5-4 lead on a three-run homer by Blake Davis, his first of the season, in the seventh. It came off reliever Rafael Galbizo.

The Hoppers loaded the bases with no one out in the eighth and Daniel Batz lifted a sacrifice fly to score Brett Hayes and tie the game 5-5. But that was the only run they could push across as Russ Petrick worked out of the rest of the inning.

In the 10th, Ryan Finan cracked a two-run homer, his 14th, off Mauro Zarate to give the Shorebirds the lead. Blake Owen came in and registered his fourth save, and second in two nights. Petrick (2-0) picked up his second straight win.

For Delmarva, Vito Chiaravalloti had two hits, including his second homer of the year, two RBIs and two runs scored. Davis had two hits, three RBIs and two runs and Finan two hits and two RBIs.

Gary Roche had two of the Hoppers' seven hits, which came against six Delmarva pitchers. He also drove in two runs.

The teams play the third game of their series Friday night at 7 p.m. at First Horizon.
