LAKEWOOD, N.J. -Ten days after their last game at FirstEnergy Park, the Lakewood BlueClaws return home for eight games against two Southern Division opponents. The Augusta GreenJackets, just like the BlueClaws, are in first place in their division. Monday will be the first time this season that Lakewood plays outside of the Northern Division.
Monday and Tuesday are "Memories of Mayberry" nights at the ballpark with the Barney Fife and Gomer Pyle characters from the classic Andy Griffith roaming the concourse in their Mayberry squad car. Also, the first 2,000 fans to the game on Monday, 17 and younger, will be given notebooks at the gates courtesy of Building Services Installation. Monday's game against the GreenJackets, the Single-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants, is scheduled to begin at 7:05. Every Monday game in Lakewood, kids eat for free courtesy of ShopRite. All children, 12 and under, will receive a voucher for a free hot dog, soda and chips upon entering the ballpark.
Tuesday's fan giveaway is the third installment of the BlueClaws "Made it to the Phillies" bobblehead series. Former BlueClaw, Eude Brito, who made his Major League debut in 2005, has been selected as the next bobblehead. The first 2,000 fans through the turnstiles for the 7:05 game will receive a bobblehead thanks to Commerce Bank.
The third game of the GreenJackets series is a matinee game with a special 11:05 a.m. start time. The first 2,000 fans to the game will get oversized baseball cards thanks to the Asbury Park Press and Club Cool. The series conclusion is Thursday at 7:05 with the entertainer Rockin' Ray and the Skyydogs at the ballpark for the enjoyment of all thanks to Clayton Block.
The BlueClaws will close out the month of July against the Greenville Drive, an affiliate of the Boston Red Sox. The Drive are currently in second place in the Southern Division, just a couple of games behind the GreenJackets. The series with the Drive gets underway at 7:05 Friday night. Following the game, there will be a fireworks celebration presented by Toyota/Scion World of Lakewood.
The weekend begins with Saturday's 7:05 game and is one of the most anticipated promotional nights of the year. Saturday is Irish Heritage Night and special ticket packages are available. The first 2,000 fans over the age of 18 will receive an Irish BlueClaws cap courtesy of the New Jersey Spine Group.
First pitch on Sunday is scheduled for 5:05. The entertainers, the BigWigs, will be at the game to entertain fans and the first 2,000 fans, 18 and older, will be given a first aid kit courtesy of Alert Ambulance.
The series and the homestand concludes Monday, July 31 at 7:05. The BlueClaws will be celebrating Brick native and 15 year veteran of the National Hockey League, Jim Dowd. Dowd began his career with the New Jersey Devils and is currently a center for the Colorado Avalanche. The BlueClaws and First Atlantic Federal Credit Union will give the first 2,000 fans in attendance a Jim Dowd bobblehead and Dowd will make an appearance to sign autographs during the game.
In 2005, the Lakewood BlueClaws were the recipients of Baseball America's Bob Freitas award for overall excellence in Minor League Baseball. The BlueClaws have led the league in attendance every year, topping out at 444,607 in 2005 and became the fastest team in South Atlantic League history to reach the 2 million fan attendance mark.
