
Shorebirds Open Second Half with 6-3 Win

Salisbury, MD - Delmarva Shorebirds (31-37, 1-0) starter Juan Guzman held the Asheville Tourists (38-31, 0-1) to two hits over six innings leading the Shorebirds to a 6-3 win on Thursday night at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium to open the second half of the year.
The Shorebirds scored first in the second inning. Creede Simpson led off with a single up the middle. Torsten Boss followed with a walk. With two outs, Gregory Lorenzo doubled to left-center field to plate Simpson.
The Shorebirds extended the lead in the third. Lucas Herbst dragged a bunt single to first to begin the inning. Then, Roderick Bernadina pulled a single to left field. Tucker Nathans followed with a sharp line drive double to right-center field to score both runners.
In the sixth inning, four consecutive hits produced three more runs to build the lead to 6-1. Lorenzo hit a double to shallow right field and Weems hit a two-run single to center.
Shorebirds starter Juan Guzman (4-0) was outstanding over six innings. He allowed two hits and one unearned run. In his last 19 innings on the mound, Guzman has allowed seven hits and one earned run.
The Tourists drew closer in the eighth inning. Max White hit a two-run home run to right field off reliever Jose Nivar.
In the ninth inning, Mychal Givens entered to pick up his second game of the year.
The Shorebirds and Tourists play game two of the series on Friday, June 21 at 7:05pm. LHP Matt Taylor is the scheduled starter for Delmarva.
