Ninth Inning Rally Falls Short

Rome, GA - The Rome Braves were defeated Thursday night 4-2 by the Charleston Riverdogs at State Mutual Stadium before a crowd of 2,049. Down 4-1 in the ninth the Braves rallied to make it a 4-2 game but fell short in their comeback bid.

Charleston took an early lead with a run in the first inning thanks to a run scoring double by Gregory Bird. The Riverdogs added to their lead in the second when Danny Oh reached on a fielder's choice allowing Kelvin De Leon to score from third making it a 2-0 game. Rome made it a 2-1 contest in the fourth on an RBI double by Casey Kalenkosky.

In the seventh, Charleston posted two runs for the 4-1 lead on a run scoring singles by Oh and Bird. Rome tried to rally with a single run in the bottom of the ninth thanks to a one out run scoring double by Ronald Luna but Charleston's pitching shut down the Braves for the final two outs to preserve the win 4-2.

Evan Rutckyj (7-4) earns the win for the Riverdogs and Phil Wetherell (2) the save. Rome starter Wes Parsons (2-4) takes the loss for the Braves going five innings, allowing one earned run on two hits while fanning seven.
