Delmarva Shorebirds News Release

Salisbury, Md.- Behind another stellar pitching effort and some timely hitting at the top of the order, the Shorebirds knocked out the Drive 3-1 on Wednesday afternoon at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium. Although starter Nathan Nery did not factor in the decision, the lefthander had his best start of the season, going five and two thirds inning with just one run allowed on five hits. Cliff Flagello picked up the win with two scoreless innings in relief, and Mick Mattaliano earned his 19th save by retiring four straight hitters over the last inning and a third.

The top three hitters in the Delmarva lineup-Matt Angle, Ryan Adams, and Matt Tucker-led the Shorebird offensive attack by recording six of the seven hits on the day. All together, they combined to go 6-9 with two runs scored, two RBI, and two walks. Greenville tied up the ballgame at one when Yaimaico Navarro's RBI double plated Che-Hsuan Lin with two outs in the sixth inning, but the Shorebirds wasted little time in regaining the lead. Matt Tucker opened up the last of the sixth with a triple and scored on a wild pitch shortly thereafter. The Birds, behind their steady bullpen, held on to the lead for the remainder of the ballgame. Winners of two of the first three matchups in the series, the Shorebirds will seek a series triumph on Thursday evening.
