Catfish falter at home

Columbus Catfish News Release


Columbus, GA - The Columbus Catfish (13-7) lost to the Kannapolis Intimidators (12-8) Wednesday night by a score of 6-1.

Kannapolis took an early lead in the 1st inning with a two run homer by Mark Fleisher that scored Dale Mollenhauer who had a lead off single to start the game. Columbus would answer back in the bottom of the 1st inning putting up a run from a sacrifice fly by Chase Fontaine that scored Shawn O'Malley. That run would be all the Catfish would score for the rest of the game as the Kannapolis used the next 8 innings to pull away and pick up the win.

Kannapolis added 3 more runs in the 3rd inning to make the score 5-1. The first run came off a lead-off home run from catcher Matt Inouye. Mark Fleisher would homer again with Jim Gallagher on 1st base to tack on another two runs. Kannapolis would add their sixth and final run in the 5th inning off a single by Mark Fleisher that once again scored Jim Gallagher.

Mark Fleisher for Kannapolis would finish the game 3 for 5 with 2 home runs and 5 runs batted in. Alex Cobb (7-5) was charged the lost for the Catfish after leaving in the third inning, and Johnnie Lowe (3-4) would pick up the win for the Intimidators. It's was Lowe's first start since he suffered an injury in May. The Catfish will look to win the series tomorrow night at Golden Park at 7:00 pm.
