PREVIEW: The Delmarva Shorebirds scored two runs in the eighth inning to break a 4-4 tie to defeat West Virginia last night. The 'Birds look for their first five-game series sweep of the season. The Shorebirds have just one series sweep this season against Kannapolis between 6/14 and 6/16. The Shorebirds pulled within 2.5 games of Lakewood, who did not play last night due to weather in Kannapolis.
STARTING PITCHING SUCCESS: Over the last 11 games, Shorebirds starting pitching has allowed just 39 hits and four earned runs in 65.1 innings pitched. Further, the 11 starters have combined to strike out 59 batters with just 13 walks.
SEVEN IN A ROW: The Shorebirds aim for seven wins in a row, which would be their longest win streak of the season. The last time the Shorebirds won seven in a row was between May 20 and May 26 of 2009.
FRIENDLY CONFINES OF PERDUE: The Shorebirds are 15-6 in their last 21 home games at Perdue Stadium. The 'Birds are now over .500 at home on the season at 25-23.
18 OF 19: Brian Conley has reached base in 18 of the last 19 games that he has appeared dating back to June 25. He has reached in seven straight games.
