Shorebirds Game Notes vs. West Virginia

PREVIEW: The Shorebirds' offense went quiet in a 5-0 loss in the series opener against West Vir- ginia. Both teams only managed five hits, but the Power benefitted from two errors in a five-run sixth inning. Mitch Horacek settled for a defeat despite pitching very effectively. The Shorebirds will try to even the series with Steven Brault on the mound on Tuesday.

TODAY'S OPPONENT: Dovydas Neverauskas makes the start for West Virginia in the middle game of a three-game set. Neverauskas has lost five of his last six starts to fall to 4-7 on the season with a 5.79 ERA. The right-hander is 1-2 vs. Delmarva with 11 earned runs allowed in 11 2/3 in- nings, with eight of those runs coming on June 14th. The Lithuania native also lost his only start at Perdue Stadium on June 23rd.

19TH SEASON: The 2014 season marks the 19th season of Shorebirds baseball on the Eastern Shore and 18th straight year as a Baltimore Orioles affiliate. The Shorebirds' first season was 1996 as a Montreal Expos farm team.

ORIOLES WATCH: The Baltimore Orioles won the series opener with the Washington Nationals on Monday night. Baltimore broke a 2-2 tie in the 11th inning with three home runs from Chris Davis, J.J. Hardy and Manny Machado. After the 8-2 win in extras, the O's are now 49-40, three games ahead of the Toronto Blue Jays for 1st place in the AL East.

THE IRON IS HOT: 19 out of the 25 players on the Shorebirds active roster appeared for the Ab- erdeen IronBirds in 2013. The IronBirds put together an impressive season, making the playoffs for the first time in their 12-year franchise history. Aberdeen won the McNamara Division in the New York-Penn League with a 40-32 record. The IronBirds lost in the first round of the NYPL play- offs, losing 2 games to 0 against the Tri-City Valley Cats.

WHO'S HOT/WHO ELSE

DREW DOSCH | 3B

The Shorebirds' All- Star third baseman has started the second half well. In back-to-back games in Hagerstown, Dosch delivered a 9th inning RBI base hit for a key insurance run. Dosch is currently batting .309, just outside the top 10 in the SAL. Dosch is currently 2nd in the league with 101 hits, behind Wilmer Difo (111, HAG).

WHO'S HOT - CONOR BIERFELDT

The Shorebirds outfielder & designated hit- ter went 3-for-4 on Thursday night. In the three games at Kannapolis, Bierfeldt hit four doubles and three RBIs. Bierfeldt is now 2nd on the team with 20 doubles, behind Kemp.

WHO ELSE - CHANCE SISCO

Since the All-Star Break, Chance Sisco has been otherworldly. The Shorebirds catcher is batting .423 (30-for-71) in 18 games in the second half. Sisco is now 2nd in the SAL with a .343 batting average.
