Savannah Sand Gnats News Release

Savannah, Ga.- The Augusta GreenJackets used a ninth-inning home run to snap the Gnats' 11-game winning streak with a 6-4 win Tuesday afternoon. Savannah teams have four winning streaks of 11 games since 1993, but all ended without the team winning their dozenth game.

In the top of the ninth in a 4-4 game, left fielder Ryan Jones parked his first homer of the year, a two run shot, over the leftfield wall to give the GreenJackets (9-11/43-45) a 6-4 lead.

The Gnats used a three-run fifth inning to grab a brief 4-3 lead. After first baseman Dominic Smith doubled and Oberste singled, right fielder Victor Cruzado doubled to the warning track in left to bring home both runners, tying the game at 3-3. Nelfi Zapata then ripped a double down the leftfield line to score Cruzado.

The GreenJackets evened the game at 4-4 in the top of the sixth inning when catcher Eric Sim singled home Jeremy Sy.

Savannah first baseman Matt Oberste was 2-for-4 which extended his season-best hitting streak to 11 games.
