Delmarva Shorebirds News Release
PREVIEW: The Shorebirds fought back to avoid a series sweep, taking advantage of a poor bullpen performance from Kannapolis. In the fifth inning, reliever Andrew Mitchell surrendered the lead on three bases-loaded walks. In the ninth inning, Delmarva was saved by a few feet as Danny Hayes hit a deep drive that hit the top of the wall.
TODAY'S OPPONENT: Julio Reyes will start the series opener on the 4th of July. Reyes has been primarily a reliever for Lakewood, making 19 appearances (4 starts) in 2014. All three prior matchups with Delmarva have been out of the bullpen, allowing two runs in five innings com- bined. In his last time out, the right-hander allowed four runs in just 1 2/3 innings in a start at West Virginia.
19TH SEASON: The 2014 season marks the 19th season of Shorebirds baseball on the Eastern Shore and 18th straight year as a Baltimore Orioles affiliate. The Shorebirds' first season was 1996 as a Montreal Expos farm team.

Steve Pearce went 4-for-5 with two doubles and two RBIs to lead the Birds to victory. Wei-Yin Chen improved to 8-3 with a win, and Zach Britton locked down his 12th save. The O's are now tied for first with the Toronto Blue Jays.
THE IRON IS HOT: 19 out of the 25 players on the Shorebirds active roster appeared for the Ab- erdeen IronBirds in 2013.
