Asheville Tourists News Release

Asheville, NC--The Asheville Tourists let a big lead slip away on Friday night, but never lost focus as they rallied for their fifth walk-off win of the season. The Tourists led the Lexington Legends 6-2 heading into the seventh inning when the visitors scored four runs to tie up the game. Asheville responded with a ninth inning rally that led to a 7-6 walk-off victory.

In the ninth, Emerson Jimenez led off the frame with a single to right. He went to second on David Dahl's sacrifice bunt and took third on a wild pitch. After back-to-back intentional walks to Michael Benjamin and Raimel Tapia, Ryan McMahon played the role of hero. On the first pitch, McMahon laced a single back up the middle to give Asheville the win.

McMahon had already done plenty of damage in the game. In the bottom of the first he made the score 2-0 with a two-run single to right. Asheville added another later in the frame. The Legends plated two unearned runs, one in the second and another in the third, to cut the Tourists lead to just one. In the bottom of the third McMahon roped a two-run double off the wall in right.

Michael Benjamin drove in a run in the fourth to put the Tourists in front 6-2. Lexington's response came in the top of the seventh. They plated four runs off Tourists reliever Jefri Hernandez.

Zach Jemiola started for the Asheville and went 5.2 frames without allowing an earned run. The right-hander struck out seven and did not walk a batter. In his four starts since the All-Star Break, Jemiola has pitched 26.1 innings and has allowed only one earned run.

Andrew Brown earned the win with a perfect ninth. Jimenez, Benjamin, and McMahon all had three hits while Dahl added a pair of doubles in the win. Asheville and Lexington take the field next on Saturday at 6:05pm.
