Greenville Drive News Release

Augusta, GA - Fireworks are everywhere on the Fourth of July, and the offenses of the Greenville Drive (3-13, 37-48) and Augusta GreenJackets (6-10, 40-44) provided some fireworks of their own on Friday night. The GreenJackets' show ended up a little more powerful, as they rode a six-run fifth inning to a 13-9 victory.

Augusta entered the fifth trailing 7-3, and after a Jamie Callahan (2-8) wild pitch scored their first run of the frame, three big hits helped them pull ahead. An RBI single by Tyler Horan and a walk led to a pitching change, and Ryan Jones rudely greeted Sergio Gomez with an RBI single of his own to cut the lead to 7-6. Ty Ross followed with the big blow of the inning, as he drove a three-run double to right to put the GreenJackets on top for good.

Horan was in the middle of seemingly every Augusta rally on Friday, as he tagged Callahan for a two-run homer in the first and an RBI single in the third. He finished the evening 4-4 with a homer and three RBIs, falling a triple shy of the cycle.

The Drive put together a five-run fourth against Luis Ysla to go up 5-3, as Tim Roberson popped a solo homer to right, Kendrick Perkins lined a two-run double to center, and Kevin Mager followed with a two-run single.

Carlos Asuaje added to the short-lived lead in the fifth with a two-run homer to right-center against Carlos Alvarado (4-1), and he became the first Drive player to reach double digit homers in 2014.

Those were the only runs Alvarado allowed in four innings of relief, and he picked up the victory.

Augusta tacked on four more runs in the seventh thanks to Jones' sacrifice fly, Eric Sim's two-run single and Ryan Tuntland's RBI single.

The Drive scored twice in the ninth after Asuaje's sacrifice fly and Jake Romanski's run-scoring single against Jake Smith, but Dan Slania recorded the final two outs to earn his ninth save.

Rafael Rodriguez joined Horan with a big night at the plate, going 3-4 with three runs, while Ross had two hits and three RBI. Romanski collected three hits for the Drive. Mager added a pair of hits, and Asuaje drove in three.

Game two of the three-game series begins at 7:00 on Saturday night. The Drive will send RH Teddy Stankiewicz (6-6, 4.38) to the mound, while the GreenJackets counter with RH Chase Johnson (1-5, 4.91).
