Charleston Dirty Birds News Release
(Greensboro, NC)- The West Virginia Power fell to the Greensboro Grasshoppers 5-2 on Friday night at NewBridge Bank Park. The Power took the early 2-0 advantage, but could muster nothing more as Greensboro scored five unanswered.
The Power got on the board in the first when an Edwin Espinal RBI groundout plated JaCoby Jones. Jones would smash his 10th home run of the season in the third to put West Virginia on top 2-0.
The Grasshoppers, however, would take over from that point on. Greensboro pushed two across in the third on an Avery Romero two-RBI single. In the third, the Grasshoppers took the lead with a JT Riddle RBI base knock.
Finally, Greensboro put the game out of reach in the seventh. Another pair came home on a Chad Wallach sacrifice fly and an RBI single off the bat of Kentrell Dewitt.
Justin Topa (3-5) was charged with the loss despite allowing one earned run while Sean Townsley (4-2) earned the victory and Tyler Kinley (5) notched the save. Danny Collins posted his third three-hit performance of the season in the loss.
West Virginia visits the Greensboro Grasshoppers on Saturday, July 5, at NewBridge Bank Park. Cody Dickson will start against the Grasshoppers Ryan Newell. The Power will return to Appalachian Power Park on Thursday, July 10, to host Greensboro for four games. For tickets or more information, call 304-344-BATS or visit www.wvpower.com.
