PREVIEW:

The Shorebirds and Grasshoppers split a doubleheader on Saturday night leading into the finale today. With a win, the Shorebirds would secure the series over Greensboro. Tim Adleman earned the win in game one of the doubleheader yesterday in five strong frames. The Shorebirds plated all five of their runs in the first two innings. In game two, Isaac Galloway hit a 12th inning home run to break a 3-3 tie and give Greensboro a 5-3 win.

GURKA FANS 10 IN 3.2:

Left-handed reliever Jason Gurka struck out ten batters in 3.2 innings in game two of the doubleheader. The ten strikeouts are a new career high for Gurka, whose previous high water mark was only five. Gurka entered in the fifth inning with the bases loaded and just one out and proceeded to strike out both hitters he faced. The Chappell, Texas native struck out the side in the seventh inning.

18 STRIKEOUTS:

With the help of Gurka's 10 strikeouts, the Shorebirds fanned 18 batters in the 12-inning marathon. Clay Shrader fanned four over three innings, Ryan Palsha had two in 1.1 innings and Cameron Roth and Chris Petrini each had one.

FIRST PITCH, HOME RUN:

Justin Dalles blasted the first pitch from Jheyson Manzueta over the left field wall in game two last night. It was Dalles' first at-bat of the 2011 season.

3:57:

The second game last night lasted 3:57 minutes. The Shorebirds played only one game all of last season that lasted longer than game three of the year. It was the 18-inning affair against Lakewood on July 24 (5:05).

SQUANDERED OPPORTUNITIES:

The Shorebirds left 14 runners in game two and hit 1-for-14 with runners in scoring position. The Shorebirds had multiple base runners in three of the five extra innings, but were unable to score.
