Suns Rally Past Braves to Sweep Series

Rome, GA - The Hagerstown Suns came from behind with four ninth inning runs to defeat the Rome Braves 7-6 before 2,424 fans. It was the Braves' fourth straight loss to open the season.

Rome took the lead in the fourth inning on a two out RBI single by David Rohm for the 1-0 score. The lead however didn't last long as Hagerstown posted two runs in the fifth on an RBI triple by Michael Taylor and an RBI single by Blake Kelso giving the Suns a 2-1 advantage.

Rome bounced right back in the bottom of the inning to tie the game thanks to an RBI single by Barrett Kleinknecht. In the Braves half of the sixth, two runs crossed the plate on a two RBI triple by Keenan Wiley giving the Braves a 4-2 lead.

The Suns inched closer in the seventh inning with the run off a wild pitch by Danillo Alverez closing the gap to a 4-3 score. Rome added two runs in the bottom of the seventh making the score 6-3 on a two RBI double by David Rohm.

Hagerstown posted four runs in the ninth inning. Mike Taylor reached on a force out and advanced to second on a single by Blake Kelso. Jason Martinson walked to load the bases and Bryce Harper singled up the middle to score Taylor. Randolph Oduber was hit by a pitch to force in another run. With the bases still loaded, Mills Rogers singled up the middle to score Martinson and Harper giving Hagerstown a 7-6 lead.

The Braves went quietly in the bottom of the ninth giving Hagerstown the victory and the sweep of the series.

Chad Jenkins (1-0) earns the win for Hagerstown, while Wesley Alsup (0-1) takes the tough loss. Sam Brown came on in the ninth to pick up his first save of the year.

Rome begins a 4 game series with the Augusta GreenJackets tomorrow at 7pm.
