Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
LAKEWOOD, NJ - The Lakewood BlueClaws fell to 1-2 on the young 2011 season as they dropped the first game of their doubleheader vs Kannapolis 2-0 in 16 innings, then lost 4-1 in the second game in 7 innings. Lakewood struggled mightily at the plate collecting just 7 hits and scoring only 1 run in 23 innings on Sunday.
Both games of the doubleheader were scheduled to be just 7 innings, but neither team scored in the opening game until the top of the 16th inning. RHP David Buchanan started the first game for the RHP BlueClaws and thre 7 shutout innings and allowed only 3 hits. The only problem is RHP Jake Petricka got the start for Kannapolis and allowed 0 hits while striking out 9 over 6 innings.
The BlueClaws had the bases loaded with nobody out in the bottom of the 9th inning, but they failed to convert. Domingo Santana struck out for the first out of the inning, then Cameron Rupp flied out to RF and Zach Collier was thrown out at home by Kannapolis' RF Jacob Hamme. RHP Hector Neris picked up the loss in his first outing of the season after giving up a 2-run HR to the Intimidators Cacther Mike Blanke in the top of the 16th.
In the second game of the doubleheader, LHP Jesse Biddle made his much anticipated BlueClaws debut and threw 4 2/3 innings allowing 2 runs, but only 1 earned while he picked up the loss. LHP Spencer Arroyo pitched very well for Kannapolis going 5 innings and allowing just 1 unearned run that scored on a passed ball in the first inning.
Tomorrow, the BlueClaws continue their season opening home stand as the Greensboro Grasshoppers come to town for four games. RHP Colby Shreve will get the start for Lakewood on Monday, followed by LHP Ervis Manzanillo on Tuesday. The BlueClaws 2011 Magnet Schedule will be given away to the first 2,000 fans on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday this week thanks to JerseyShore.MomsLikeMe.com.
