Delmarva Shorebirds News Release
Salisbury, Md.- For just the second time this season, the Shorebirds blew a lead after leading through eight innings, falling to Lake County on Monday night 4-2. With two outs, Pedro Florimon's fielding error allowed the tying run to score for the Captains as Matt Brown came home from third. The next batter, Lucas Montero, blasted his second homer of the game, his fourth off Delmarva in the past week, to give Lake County a 4-2 lead which they would not relinquish. The late rally by Lake County ended up costing Shorebird starter Zach Britton his eighth victory of the season. Britton received a no decision despite six masterful innings, allowing just a single run on three hits, with three strikeouts and no walks. Mick Mattaliano, aiming for his 18th save of the season, ended up suffering his third blown save despite all three runs being unearned. First baseman Anthony Martinez singled in a run in the fifth to give the Birds a 2-1 lead and extend his hitting streak to 11 games. Tyler Henson also doubled, scored, and drove in a run via a third inning sac fly for Delmarva in a losing effort.
Lake County starter Ryan Morris allowed two runs in five innings for the Captains, and the Shorebird offense was blanked over the final four frames by the visiting bullpen. In the ninth, the Shorebirds went in order, giving Kyle Landis his first save of the season. Losers of four in a row, the Shorebirds seek to avoid their first five game losing skid of the season tomorrow night against the Captains at 7:05
