(Eastlake, OH) - Lucas Montero hit a home run from both sides of the plate including a two run homer in the top of the ninth inning off of Shorebirds closer Mick Mattaliano, to propel the Captains to a 4-2 win over Delmarva on Monday. The Captains tied it up just prior to the Montero homer on an error by the Birds Pedro Florimon. This was only the Captains second win this season when they trailed after eight innings. They are 2-24 in games they trail in after eight innings. The Captains upped their second half record to 5-7.

The Shorebirds grabbed the lead in the bottom of the third inning off of Captains starter Ryan Morris on a sacrifice fly by Tyler Henson that scored Jason White and the Shorebirds led 1-0. After a forty minute rain delay, the Captains tied it at 1-1 in the top of the fifth inning on a solo home run by Lucas Montero off of Shorebirds starter Zach Britton. The Shorebirds reclaimed a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning when Henson doubled and eventually scored on a single by Anthony Martinez.

Morris did not factor in the decision going five innings allowing two runs on five hits, walking two and striking out two. John Gaub relieved Morris in the sixth inning and threw two scoreless innings striking out four. Gary Campfield picked up the win pitching a scoreless eighth inning and Kyle Landis got his first save with a scoreless ninth inning. Mattaliano suffered his first loss of the year.
