Shorebirds' Comeback Falls Short in 3-2 Loss

Salisbury, Md. - The Delmarva Shorebirds (27-39) scored two runs in the ninth inning and had Nicky Delmonico at the plate with a runner at first, but fell 3-2 on Saturday night to Kannapolis (32-37) at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium. The Shorebirds managed just two hits over the first eight innings and were held hitless over the first 5.2 innings.

After four scoreless innings, Kannapolis took a 2-0 lead in the fifth. Kevin Dubler hit a two-run home run to right field.

In the sixth inning, Ross Wilson hit a two-out RBI single off Matt Bischoff to stretch the Kannapolis to lead to 3-0.

The Shorebirds mounted a rally in the ninth inning. Gabriel Lino started the inning with a double towards left-center field. Then, Sammie Starr singled up the middle to score Lino to trim the gap to 3-1. With two outs, Mikey Planeta hit a line drive single into left-center field to cut the deficit to 3-2. With two outs, Nicky Delmonico hit a line drive to deep left-center field that Tillman Pugh caught to end the game.

Kannapolis starter Myles Jaye tossed six shutout innings to earn the win. He allowed just one hit. Shorebirds starter Parker Bridwell was pinned with the loss over five innings. He allowed just four hits and two runs.

Matt Bischoff made his debut for the Shorebirds and allowed two hits and a run in one inning.

Zach Fowler entered in the seventh inning and tossed three scoreless innings. Fowler has not allowed an earned run since April 28. His ERA has dropped from 11.25 to 2.29 during the stretch.

The Shorebirds left 10 runners on base tonight while the Intimidators left 12 runners on base.
