
Tough 9-8 Loss to Savannah

Rome, GA - The Rome Braves dropped their third straight game to the Savannah Sand Gnats 9-8 Saturday night before a crowd of 4,325.
Things looked good early as Rome opened up a two run lead in the second thanks to a William Beckwith (7) solo homer and a sacrifice fly RBI by Sergio Miranda. Savannah cut the lead in half in the third on an RBI double by Brandon Brown. The Braves quickly got the run back in the bottom half of the inning, on a sacrifice fly RBI by Robby Hefflinger for the 3-1 score.
Things went south for the Braves in the fifth as Savannah plated four runs on two hits. All four runs were unearned due to three costly Rome errors making the score 5-3. The Sand Gnats added two runs in the seventh on two solo homeruns by Dustin Lawley (8) and Aderlin Rodriguez (11) for the 7-3 lead. Savannah added another run in the eighth on a RBI single by Gregory Pron. Rome's half of the inning saw Hefflinger double and Will Skinner single to make it a 8-4 game. An important Savannah run came in the top half of the ninth on an RBI double by Brian Harrison for the 9-4 score. Rome would come up off the deck and score four runs on five hits in the bottom of the ninth.
Tony Mueller started the scoring with an RBI single and Fernando De Los Santos would add an RBI double, making the score 9-6. Kyle Kubitza added a run scoring single of his own and Will Skinner added an RBI base hit to close the ninth inning scoring as Savannah held on for the 9-8 victory. The Braves outhit the Sand Gnats 16 to 9, but three costly errors decided the game's fate.
Jacob DeGrom (2-1) earned his second victory of the season for Savannah, going five inning and only surrendering three runs. Rome's Ernesto Silva (0-6) went four innings and gave up only one earned run on three hits, but was charged with the Braves loss.
The Braves match up with the Savannah Sand Gnats for the final time Sunday afternoon at 2 PM.
