BlueClaws Pinch Crawdads with 4-3 Win

LAKEWOOD, NJ - The Lakewood BlueClaws won the penultimate game of the first half of the season, 4-3, against the Hickory Crawdads, before 8,000 fans at FirstEnergy Park in Lakewood on Saturday night.

Lakewood (25-43) tallied one run in the third and fourth frames to move in front of RHP Santo Perez (L, 2-6) and the 'Dads. An RBI single by SS Stephen Malcolm in the third, followed by an RBI fielder's choice by CF Aaron Altherr in the fourth accounted for the 2-0 lead.

The Crawdads (36-32) raced in front with a two-out rally against RHP Colin Kleven in the top of the fifth. With two outs and the bases empty, 3B Trever Adams extended the inning with a double. After 1B Jhonny Gomez worked a walk, All-Star CF Chris Grayson belted a three-run home run to lift Hickory into the 3-2 lead.

However, Lakewood responded with two runs of it's own in the bottom of the sixth. 2B Carlos Perdomo started the inning with a walk, before racing all the way in on an RBI double by RF Kelly Dugan. Dugan advanced to third base on a fly out to center, and then Altherr struck again with an RBI single to put the BlueClaws back in front, 4-3.

While Hickory RHP Chris Hanna tossed 2.1 scoreless relief innings for the 'Dads, Lakewood RHP Gabriel Sanchez (W, 2-3) and RHP Yari Sosa (S, 1) countered with 4.1 scoreless relief stanzas, closing the 4-3 win for Lakewood.
