(WHITAKER BANK BALLPARK, Lexington, Ky.) Jonas Dufek pitched seven strong innings and Zach Johnson drove in two runs as the Lexington Legends took a 4-1 win over the Asheville Tourists Saturday night in front of 6,017 fans at Whitaker Bank Ballpark.
Dufek (4-1) allowed just one run on three hits, struck out seven batters and walked two. It was his third straight victory.
Asheville got its only run off Dufek in the second when Jared Simon hit a solo home run over the center field wall.
Lexington took the lead with two runs in the sixth inning. Jay Austin was hit by a pitch and then stole second. After Johnson struck out, Matt Duffy lined a single to left, moving Austin to third. Mike Kvasnicka's single scored Austin with the tying run as Duffy moved to third. Brandon Meredith hit a high chopper that was fielded by first baseman Harold Riggins, but his only play was at first, and Duffy scored to give the Legends a 2-1 lead.
The Legends added their final two runs in the seventh. Asheville reliever Nelson Gonzalez, who had just entered the game, issued consecutive walks to Chan Jong Moon, Delino DeShields Jr. and Austin, loading the bases. After Kenneth Roberts relieved Gonzalez, Johnson singled to left-center field, driving home Moon and DeShields, leaving the score at 4-1.
Lexington's Evan Grills set the side down in order in the eighth, and Dayan Diaz picked up his seventh save of the season by doing the same in the ninth.
Winkler (8-4) took the loss after allowing two runs over six innings.
Lexington and Asheville will wrap up their series and the first half of the season Sunday afternoon. First pitch at Whitaker Bank Ballpark is scheduled for 1:35 p.m.
