Texas Stars News Release
San Antonio, TX - The Texas Stars (18-5-2-2, 40 points) defeated the San Antonio Rampage (9-11-2-1, 21 points) 4-1 on Sunday night in front of 3,209 fans at the AT&T Center. Right wing Tyler Shelast broke a 1-1 tie 8:56 into the third period to spark a three-goal Texas outburst and solidify the team's fourth straight win over San Antonio. Stars forward Mathieu Beaudoin scored his fifth goal in his last three games, as Texas improved to 10-3-1-1 on the road this season. Texas rookie goalie Richard Bachman (1-0-0) made his AHL debut with 32 saves and the victory. Center Warren Peters and left wing Francis Wathier also scored in the win, the Stars third straight and fourth in their last five games. San Antonio goalie Justin Pogge (1-1-0) stopped 24 Stars shots in the defeat. Texas returns home to host Peoria at 7:30 PM on Wednesday night at Cedar Park Center.
San Antonio scored the only goal of the first period, a power-play tally at 7:53 off a generous bounce in the Texas zone. San Antonio's Joel Perrault tried to center the puck from the left-wing and Stars forward Francis Wathier tipped the pass to break up the play. The puck then bounced off the heel of Texas defenseman Dan Jancevski and into the Stars net for the 1-0 lead. Perrault was given credit for the goal, his tenth of the year.
Texas tied the game 1-1 just 8:30 into the second period. Center Perttu Lindgren snapped a backhand pass down to the San Antonio crease for forward Travis Morin, creating a two-on-none advantage for the Stars. Morin slipped the puck to Mathieu Beaudoin for his sixth goal of the year and fifth goal in the last three games.
In the third period, Tyler Shelast carried the puck coast to coast and lifted a forehand shot over the glove of San Antonio's Justin Pogge at 8:56. The unassisted tally at 8:56 broke a 1-1 tie and sparked a three-goal period for Texas. Center Warren Peters pushed the Stars lead to 3-1 at 16:42, redirecting an Andrew Hutchinson shot on the power play for his eight goal of the year. Left wing Francis Wathier added an empty-net goal with 44 seconds remaining to seal the 4-1 Texas win.
