
Sharks Top Pirates In A Shootout

Worcester, MA - Benn Ferriero, Ryan Vesce and Steven Zalewski all scored in the shootout to lead the Worcester Sharks to a 3-2 victory over the Portland Pirates in an American Hockey League game played today at the DCU Center.
Dan DaSilva recorded a goal and an assist in regulation to lead the Sharks while Andrew Desjardins rounded out the Worcester scoring. With the win the Sharks extended their point streak to a franchise record eight games (7-0-0-1) and improved to 15-10-0-2 on the season.
Mark Mancari netted both Pirates goals. The Pirates earned a point with the shoot out loss, their second in three games, and are now 12-11-3-2 on the season.
The two teams were scoreless after one. Desjardins and Mancari traded second period goals to send the game into the third tied at one. DaSilva restored the Sharks lead early in the third but Mancari answered midway through the period to send the game into overtime. Worcester was scored three times on four chances in the shootout while the Pirates missed on all three of their attempts.
Jhonas Enroth, reassigned to the Pirates from the Buffalo Sabres earlier in the day, started for Portland and turned aside 37 of the 39 shots he faced through regulation and overtime.
The Sharks out shot the Pirates 39-32 in the game.

The Pirates return to action with road games Friday and Saturday. Friday the Pirates head to Hartford to meet the Wolf Pack at 7 p.m. Saturday it's the Pirates and the Springfield Falcons at 7 p.m. Both games can be heard live on New Talk WLOB 95.5 FM and on line at www.portlandpirates.com beginning with the pre-game show at 6:45 p.m.
The next Pirates homes games take place December 18th and 19th when the Springfield Falcons and Bridgeport Sound Tigers visit the Cumberland County Civic Center respectively. It's a Labatt Blue Light Hockey Night in Portland on the 19th and someone could win Salty Pete's Treasure Chest filled with more than $500 in prizes. It's also the Pirates second Student Achiever Night of the season as the Pirates and Aquafina reward participating schools and students with free tickets to the game.
