Albany Devils News Release
LOWELL, Mass. - Dwight King scored his first goal of the season for the game-winner with 18.1 seconds left in regulation as the Manchester Monarchs stunned the Lowell Devils, 6-5, on Sunday at the Tsongas Arena.
Tim Sestito posted a team season-high four points in the contest, while Matt Halischuk recorded a goal and two assists in his first game since being loaned from New Jersey on Saturday.
Despite big games from Sestito and Halischuk, Manchester was able to counter with a two-goal game from left wing Dave Meckler who put his team up with his first of the game at 3:02 on a one-timer from the slot.
Alec Martinez struck 31 seconds later on the power play to put Lowell down, 2-0, in the early minutes of the period.
The Devils got on the board with 3:18 left until the intermission when Patrick Davis forced a turnover behind the Monarchs net and Matt Halischuk found Sestito in front for his eighth of the season.
Halischuk would connect with Sestito again at 4:12 of the second to knot the score at two.
The rest of the game would be dominated by the power play units as both squads finished the game with three goals on the man-advantage.
Skating 5-on-4, Patrick Davis gave Lowell its first lead of the match at 8:45 with a quick wrister from the near dot that beat Jonathan Bernier to the blocker side.
It took 11 seconds for Meckler to race through the defense and even up the score, 3-3, with a shot over the shoulder of Mike McKenna.
With the Devils on the man-advantage, Halischuk found a loose puck on the right circle and rattled in a slapshot for his first of the season and a 4-3 lead at 14:24 of the second.
Viatcheslav Voynov answered back with 2:09 until the intermission to send the game into the final frame all tied up.
The Monarchs would retake their lead at 8:20 of third when Patrick Mullen's long shot from the blueline found its way to back of the net for a power play tally.
Manchester's power play would go 3-for-6 in the game.
Lowell was able to the match the Monarchs with a 3-for-4 effort on the man-advantage, capped off with Michael Swift's marker that evened the score, 5-5, with six minutes remaining.
In the final moments of the game, Richard Clune circled behind the net and seemingly had his stuff shot trapped by McKenna, but King swooped in to push in the deciding tally.
The Lowell Devils travel to battle the Providence Bruins on Friday, December 11 at 7:05PM.
