USHL Waterloo Black Hawks

Sheehy Latest USHL Honoree

January 6, 2014 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

Waterloo, Iowa-Tyler Sheehy was a difference-maker as the Waterloo Black Hawks claimed three victories last week, and the United States Hockey League recognized his efforts by naming the Burnsville, Minnesota native its co-CCM Forward of the Week Monday.

Sheehy had a positive plus/minus rating during wins against the Lincoln Stars, Fargo Force, and Dubuque Fighting Saints. Facing Fargo Friday, the 5-10, 185-pound forward recorded his seventh multipoint game of the season with a pair of assists. His effort included the setup on Mark Friedman's power play score with 2:20 remaining, which tied the contest at 3-3 and allowed Waterloo the opportunity to win in a shootout. The next night in Dubuque, Sheehy scored twice - his third two-goal game in less than a month - and added an assist to match a USHL career-best three point performance. His second goal of the evening was delivered during a second period power play and proved to be the winner in the 6-4 decision.

After making brief appearances for the Hawks during the past two seasons, Sheehy joined Waterloo on a fulltime basis in late October. Despite missing the first seven games of the season, he is currently tied for fourth in team scoring with 24 points from 12 goals and 12 assists. His cumulative +14 rating is now tied for fifth on the squad. Although he is one of only eight current Hawks who has not made an NCAA commitment, Sheehy is likely to be recruited heavily during the remainder of the season. NHL scouts will be watching as well; the league's Central Scouting service ranked Sheehy as a "B" prospect in their preseason grades of draft-eligible players during late September.

The league split Forward of the Week honors between Sheehy and Ryan McMurphy of the Tri-City Storm. This marks the fifth time during the past six weeks that a Waterloo player has earned at least a share of one of the USHL's three weekly awards. In total, Hawks players have received recognition on nine different occasions during the 2013/14 campaign.

Next on the Black Hawks' schedule are two games against Western Conference rivals. Waterloo travels to meet Sioux Falls Friday, then returns to Young Arena Saturday to host the Des Moines Buccaneers. Nickelodeon star SpongBob SquarePants will attend Saturday's game, presented by U.S. Bank. Good seats still remain for the 7:05 p.m. contest and can be ordered from the Domino's Black Hawks Box Office by calling (319) 291-7680 or online from waterlooblackhawks.com.
