
Saints Acquire Defenseman Josh Elmes from Fargo

DUBUQUE, IA- Looking to bolster the blue line, the Dubuque Fighting Saints completed a trade today, acquiring veteran defenseman Josh Elmes from the Fargo Force, along with a conditional 4th Round selection in Phase II of the 2014 USHL Draft, for affiliate list forward Anthony Petrella and a 6thRound selection in Phase II of the 2014 USHL Draft.
Elmes addition will provide depth, leadership, and size to Dubuque's blue line. Elmes is a native of Brandon, Manitoba and is in his first season in the USHL. He stands at 6-foot-2 and 218 pounds. The 1993-born defender appeared in 28 games for the Force this season, posting one goal and four assists to go along with 46 penalty minutes. He was also an assistant captain for the Force. Prior to joining the USHL, Elmes spent three seasons with the OCN Blizzard in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League. In 2012-2013, Elmes served as an alternate captain and notched five goals and 25 assists for 30 points in 58 games. In 179 regular season games with the Blizzard, Elmes scored 11 goals and 42 assists for 53 points.
Elmes is slated to arrive in Dubuque early this week. He will wear #4 for the Fighting Saints.
Petrella was drafted by Dubuque in the 4th round, 58th overall, in the 2012 USHL Futures Draft. The 1996 born forward is currently playing at Shattuck-St. Mary's (MN).
The Fighting Saints travel to Des Moines Friday night before returning home Saturday evening to host the Green Bay Gamblers at 7:05 p.m. That evening will be A Night of "One-Stoppable Fun" presented by One-Stop Tax and Accounting Services. The first 1,000 fans get a Fighting Saints Wristband, and there will be a special warm-up jersey auction with proceeds benefiting the University of Iowa Children's Hospital.
