January 6, 2014 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Indiana Ice News Release

BRAVING THE WINTER CHILL: The Indiana Ice captured three of our possible points last weekend after splitting a pair of contests with the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders from Bankers Life Fieldhouse and Pan Am Pavilion. Two-point night by Alex Talcott (G, A) and Brian Pinho (2A) fueled in Indy in Friday's 4-2 win at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. Joshua Jacobs, Scott Conway and Mike Preston also added goals in the effort while Jason Pawloski earned his ninth win in ten games. The Ice faced a 2-1 deficit early in the third period before Patrick Newell's goal 39 seconds into the frame forced overtime where the hosts would eventually fall to the RoughRiders 3-2 in a shootout. Newell earned his second point of the night early in the first period after assisting on Austin Kosack's goal.

SOCHI BOUND: Former Ice defenseman will have an opportunity no other Iceman has seen before as he will be the first Indy alum to chase after Olympic gold as a member of the 2014 U.S. Men's Hockey Team for the upcoming Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. Through 42 games this season with the Washington Capitals, Carlson leads all team defensemen in goals (7) and time on ice (24:39) while ranking second in points (15).

FUELING THE FLAME: Sub-zero temperatures can't seem to slow Scott Conway down as the first year winger extended his points streak to a season-high seven games while also riding a three-game goal streak. The Penn State University commit has been one of the USHL's most steady scoring threats this season with points in 20 of 26 games this season.

METEORIC RISE: After starting the season a bleak 0-3-1, the Ice have catapulted to the top of the Eastern Conference on the heels of a remarkable 17-3-4 run over the past 24 games to claim the top spot in the East. Indy's rise has been earned both on home ice and away as the team is in the midst of a six-game road winning streak, having not lost on the road since late November.

FULL HOUSE: Despite a loss to the Muskegon Lumberjacks on Monday, the Ice welcomed a USHL-season high 5,226 fans to Bankers Life Fieldhouse for the annual "Ring in the New Year" event. The venue also holds the record for attendance at a North American Tier I hockey game when 14,892 people filled Bankers Life on February 12, 2005 for the Ice's annual "Pack the House for Charity" night.

PLAYER CHILLS: Austin Kosack leads all USHL defensemen in plus-minus rating (+22)...Patrick Newell has five points (2G, 3A) in his past five games...Jason Pawloski is tied for third in wins (15)...Denis Smirnov has six points (2G, 4A) in his past five games...Scott Conway is fourth in the league in shots on net (107)...Tyler Andrew has three assists in his past three games.
