ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Aces defenseman and assistant captain Matt Shasby has been named the HOK Sport ECHL Plus Performer of the Month for November.

Despite Alaska's rather pedestrian 6-6 record during the month, the Eagle River, Alaska native finished even or better in 11 of 12 games. Originally a fifth-round pick of Montreal in 1999, the 26-year-old Shasby enjoyed three separate games with a +2 rating, and finished +4 with a playmaker (three assists) in Alaska's 6-1 rout at Bakersfield November 4.

Now in his second year with the Aces and having assumed the assistant captaincy during the conference finals last year, Shasby has led the league in plus/minus rating for much of the year and began the month of December with a +4 outing in a 9-6 win at Victoria on the 2nd. His +17 rating for the year sets the pace in the ECHL by a wide margin (no one is better than +12, including teammate Vladimir Novak, who sits fourth in the league at +11).

After a career-high 40 points last season, Shasby is tied for eighth among ECHL defensemen with 16 (3g-13a) this year, two behind partner Peter Metcalf, who ranks fourth among the league's blue-liners and won the ECHL plus/minus award last season at +44.

After absorbing its fourth straight loss at home last night to Fresno (for the first time since January 2003), the Aces look to rebound tomorrow night against the Falcons at 7:15 p.m. At 11-8 overall, Alaska sits tied for fifth in the National Conference with Phoenix and Bakersfield, but with Idaho also having dropped four in a row at home, the Aces remain just two points out of the West Division lead. Tickets are now available at all Fred Meyer locations, www.alaskaaces.com or by calling 258-ACES.
