Long Island Ducks News Release

(Camden, N.J., August 24, 2009) - The Camden Riversharks defeated the Long Island Ducks 7-1 on Monday night at Campbell's Field.

The Flock cracked the scoreboard first and just needed three batters to come to the plate in the first. Juan Francia reached on a single through the left side, moved to second on a passed ball and was successfully sacrificed over by Matt Cavagnaro. Ray Navarrete plated Francia with a RBI single to left and it was 1-0 Ducks.

Camden came back with pair of runs in the home half of the first to jump on top. Wayne Lydon drew a leadoff walk off Ducks' starter B.J. LaMura and then stole second and third in consecutive at-bats. Lydon crossed home as the third batter of the inning, Bryant Nelson, ripped a two-run homer to right to make it 2-1 Sharks.

LaMura (9-8) and Sharks' starter Ryan DiPietro kept the scoreboard unchanged in the second and third innings. LaMura, who struck out the side in the first, added another "K" in a perfect second and got some help from his catcher John Pachot, who gunned down Chris Walker trying to steal second in the third inning. DiPietro matched LaMura as he retired nine straight heading into the fourth.

The Riversharks padded their advantage as they batted around in the home fourth inning. Garrett Guzman drilled a solo home run off the scoreboard in right to start the frame. Brian Burgamy followed two batters later and started a string of four straight one-out singles capped by a RBI single by Lydon. After another LaMura strikeout, Nelson plated two more runs with a single up the middle and Camden held a 6-1 lead. A Brian Finegan solo shot to left in the sixth pushed the lead to six runs.

DiPietro (5-7) recorded the win tossing seven and one-third innings, allowing one earned run on six hits, while striking out five. LaMura shouldered the loss working six innings, allowing seven earned runs on 11 hits, while striking out six.
