Blue Crabs outlast Patriots 7-6 in 10 innings

Bridgewater, NJ - The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs defeated the Somerset Patriots 7-6 in ten innings at TD Bank Ballpark on Monday evening.

The Blue Crabs broke a 6-6 tie in the top of the tenth inning. Left fielder James Shanks reached on a fielder's choice and scored on an RBI double by first baseman Michael Tucker for the 7-6 final.

The Blue Crabs took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a solo home run by right fielder John Ramistella (17).

The Patriots answered with two runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 2-1 lead. Center fielder Sean Smith reached on an error and shortstop Anthony Granato and first baseman Josh Pressley drew walks to load the bases. Third baseman Jeff Nettles drew a bases loaded walk to plate Smith and catcher Jason Belcher followed with a sacrifice fly.

Southern Maryland tied up the game at 2-2 with a run in the top of the second inning. Shortstop Chuck Jeroloman doubled and scored on an RBI double by second baseman Mike Just.

Somerset regained the lead in the bottom of the third inning. Granato singled and later scored on an error for a 3-2 lead.

The Blue Crabs took a 6-3 lead in the top of the fifth inning. Jeroloman and Ramistella each walked and Just followed with an RBI single to score Jeroloman. Third baseman Patrick Osborn followed with a three-run home run (11).

The Patriots scored three runs to tie the game in the bottom of the sixth inning after Pressley singled, Nettles singled, and second baseman Teuris Olivares hit into a fielder's choice that allowed Pressley and Nettles to score on a throwing error. Belcher then followed with an RBI single to drive home Olivares to make the score 6-6.

Southern Maryland reliever Dane De La Rosa (1-0) picked up the win with two scoreless innings pitched. Patriots reliever Jared Gothreaux (6-8) suffered the loss, allowing an earned run on three hits in three innings pitched.
