Riversharks top Long Island, 7-1

The Camden Riversharks defeated the Long Island Ducks tonight, by a final score of 7-1. Camden starter Ryan DiPietro (5-7) picked up the win, as he gave up just 1 run and 6 hits in 7.1 innings of work. Long Island's B.J. LaMura (9-8) was charged with the loss, as he surrendered 7 runs and 11 hits in 6 innings. With the win, the Riversharks' season tally improves to 19-24, while Long Islands falls to 21-22.

The first inning of the game saw both teams score, as the Ducks jumped out to an early lead. With one out and a runner a runner on third, second baseman Ray Navarrete slapped a single to left field, scoring Juan Francia and giving Long Island a 1-0 lead. The Riversharks answered right back in the bottom half of the inning, courtesy of a two run homerun to deep right field by shortstop Bryant Nelson. The homerun was his ninth of the year.

Camden used the long ball again in the 4th inning to extend their lead further. Left fielder Garrett Guzman hit his third homerun of the season, a solo shot that made the score 3-2 in favor of the home team. They would then tack on three more runs in the inning, courtesy of RBI singles by center fielder Wayne Lydon and Nelson.

The Riversharks would hit their third homerun of the night in the 6th inning, and take a 7 to 1 lead. Second baseman Brian Finegan led off the inning with a towering fly ball to left, his first homerun of the year.

With a six run lead heading into the final inning, the Riversharks put the ball in the hands of closer Julio Guerrero, who retired the side and preserved victory for Camden.
