
Sharks Sign Zalesak

SAN JOSE- San Jose Sharks Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson announced that the club has re-signed Group II restricted free agent forward Miroslav Zalesak. In keeping with club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Last season, Zalesak tied for third in the American Hockey League with 72 points in 70 games with the Cleveland Barons. His 33 goals tied for third in the AHL and his 39 assists were tied for tenth. In addition, he was selected to the PlanetUSA All-Star Team for the 2004 Pepsi AHL All-Star Game. Other season highlights included setting a career- and Barons franchise-high by scoring a goal in five consecutive games (Dec. 31 - Jan. 9), recording a hat trick on Dec. 31 against Manitoba beginning an eight-game point streak (Dec. 31 - Jan. 17) and registering a point in nine consecutive games (Dec. 10 - Dec. 27) - a Barons franchise record. Zalesak also posted a career-high and shattered the Barons franchise record for most points in a single game (five) vs. Manitoba on Dec. 13; also tying the highest single-game total in the AHL this season.
He was recalled to San Jose on March 6, posting no points in one game with the Sharks. He was reassigned to Cleveland on March 11.
In 2002-03, he registered three points (one goal, two assists) in 10 games with the Sharks. Zalesak recorded his first NHL goal/point on his first shot in his first NHL game March 11 vs. St. Louis. On March 17, Zalesak added his first assist in the NHL vs. Chicago. With the Cleveland Barons, he recorded 49 points (27 goals, 22 assists) in 50 games, leading the Barons in goals and tied for third in points.
The six-foot, 200-pound native of Skalica, Slovakia, was selected by San Jose in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft (fourth round, 104th overall).
The Barons are set to open the 2004-05 home schedule on Saturday, October 16th at Gund Arena at 7pm against the Grand Rapids Griffins.
