Sharks Falter Late in 5-4 Home Loss to Wolf Pack

Worcester, MA - The Worcester Sharks (3-1-0-0, 6pts) allowed a late goal by Mat Bodie as the Hartford Wolf Pack (3-0-1-0, 7pts) took a 5-4 victory in front 1,488 fans at the DCU Center on Tuesday evening.

Melker Karlsson (1-2-3) and Micheal Haley (1-1-2) each had multiple point games for the Sharks in a see-saw affair. Worcester led 1-0, trailed 2-1, and trailed 4-2, before tying the score with two quick goals early in the third period. Petter Emanuelsson and Taylor Fedun also scored for Worcester while Troy Grosenick allowed five goals on 27 shots in the first loss of the season. Rookie defenseman Mat Bodie scored the game winner with 18 seconds left in the third period as Danny Kristo had a three point game (1-2-3) for the Wolf Pack. Hartford goaltender Jason Missiaen picked up the win in the relief of an injured Cedric Desjardins as the Sharks fell to 1-1-0-0 during their season long six game home stand which continues on Friday night at 7:30pm vs. the Syracuse Crunch.

Petter Emanuelsson (3rd) gave Worcester an early 1-0 lead after he intercepted a clearing attempt and fired a wicked shot from 35 feet that made it through goaltender Cedric Desjardins at 2:05. Hartford tied the score after a Sharks turnover in the neutral zone and Conor Allen finished off a 3-on-2 rush with a shot from the right slot at 11:30. The Sharks had several chances to score on a late power play but Cedric Desjardins stood tall. Hartford would take a 2-1 lead late in the period as Oscar Lindberg (3rd) fired a shot top shelf from 25 feet at 19:15. The Sharks trailed 2-1 through 20 minutes despite holding an 11-8 shot advantage.

The Sharks finally scored a power play goal on their 15th opportunity of the season as Melker Karlsson (2nd) scored in his second straight game after a goal mouth scramble and a great feed by Matt Tennyson at 7:54 of the second period. On the play, goaltender Cedric Desjardins left the game with an apparent injury and was replaced by Jason Missiaen. Hartford would retake the lead after another Sharks turnover as Nick Tarnasky set up Danny Kristo (1st) for a quick strike at 11:39. Hartford took a 3-2 advantage into the second intermission as Worcester held a 25-19 shot advantage through two periods.

Hartford went ahead 4-2 as the Sharks allowed their first power play goal of the season as Ryan Bourque (1st) finished one off at 1:52 of the third period. The Sharks responded with two quick goals as Michael Haley (3rd) fired one home at 2:30 followed by Taylor Fedun's (1st) equalizer at 4:25 to tie the score at 4-4. It looked like the game was going to head to overtime but rookie Mat Bodie and the Wolf Pack had other ideas. Mat Bodie (1st) fired a rocket past former Union teammate Troy Grosenick at 19:42 for the game winner and sent the Wolf Pack home a 5-4 winner.

The Sharks overall record falls to to 3-1-0-0, 6pts and 1-1-0-0, 2pts at the DCU Center

Gus Young and Daniil Tarasov did not dress for Worcester... before the game James Sheppard was recalled to San Jose....Chris Crane made his season debut for the Sharks after not dressing during the first three games.... Melker Karlsson now has a two game goal scoring streak (2-2-4)...Micheal Haley and Petter Emanuelsson each have a team high three goals.
