Portland Pirates Make Two Roster Moves

Saco, ME - The Portland Pirates today announced two roster moves. The Pirates have signed forward Francis Wathier to a Professional Tryout Agreement. Forward Matt Kassian has been released from his PTO.

Wathier, a 6-foot-4, 210 pound left winger from St. Isidore, Ontario, joins the Pirates after splitting the 2013-14 season between the AHL's Texas Stars and Milwaukee Admirals. Combined, the 29 year-old scored 9-11-20 in 65 games. Prior to being loaned by the NHL's Dallas Stars to Milwaukee on March 9, Wathier had spent his entire career in the Stars' system. Now in his tenth pro season, Wathier was drafted by Dallas in the 6th Round of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. He has played a total of 10 NHL games, all with Dallas. His most recent NHL game came during the 2012-13 season.

Kassian, a 6-foot-4, 240 pound left wing from Edmonton, Alberta, played two games with Portland this season. The 27 year-old did not register a point. Kassian was selected in the 2nd Round of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft by the Minnesota Wild.

The Pirates are next in action this Friday night for Game 1 of the 2014-15 VIP Cup Series, Presented by VIP Tires & Service, against the Manchester Monarchs at Verizon Wireless Arena. The Pirates next home game is Saturday, October 25 at the Cross Insurance Arena against the Syracuse Crunch.
