Saco, ME - The Portland Pirates today announced two roster moves. The Pirates have signed forward Francis Wathier to a Professional Tryout Agreement. Forward Matt Kassian has been released from his PTO.
Wathier, a 6-foot-4, 210 pound left winger from St. Isidore, Ontario, joins the Pirates after splitting the 2013-14 season between the AHL's Texas Stars and Milwaukee Admirals. Combined, the 29 year-old scored 9-11-20 in 65 games. Prior to being loaned by the NHL's Dallas Stars to Milwaukee on March 9, Wathier had spent his entire career in the Stars' system. His most recent NHL game came during the 2012-13 season.
Kassian, a 6-foot-4, 240 pound left wing from Edmonton, Alberta, played two games with Portland this season. The 27 year-old did not register a point. Kassian was selected in the 2nd Round of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft by the Minnesota Wild.
