November 20, 2015 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Providence Bruins News Release
PROVIDENCE, R. I. - Ben Sexton's first goal of the season was the lone tally in the Providence scoresheet in the 4-1 loss against the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.
The P-Bruins came out with speed in the first period, but the Phantoms managed to find their legs as the period wore on. Kevin Sundher put Lehigh Valley on the board first, putting the puck past Subban at 11:31 into the period, assisted by Mark Alt.
Ben Sexton opened the scoring 12:48 into the second period, when his snipe shot past Stolarz's right side blocker. Brett Bellemore was credited with the helper. This marked Sexton's first goal of the season, who missed time with a hand surgery.
Sundher struck back two minutes later, when he was met with open ice as he left the penalty box. Goumas sent the puck to Sundher who deked around Subban and gave Lehigh Valley the go-ahead goal.
Cherniwchan was issued a 5-minute major for boarding and the P-Bruins spent the remainder of the period a man down.
Lehigh Valley's Brent and Palushaj executed some crisp passing to give Martel a relatively open net, and he took advantage and roofed it past Subban's left shoulder. Martel's goal gave the Phantoms a 3-1 lead with 10:49 left in the third.
Petr Straka notched Lehigh's 4th goal when the P-Bruins defense lost their puck in their own skates. Conner and Cousins were credited with the assists.
P-Bruins pulled the goalie for an extra skater with two minutes to go, but the last ditched effort was not enough. Providence outshot the Phantoms 30-23. This marks the 7th loss in a row for Providence.
Providence plays Lehigh Valley again at the Dunk Sunday November 22nd at 3:05pm.
