Albany Devils News Release
ALBANY, NY - Yann Danis was spectacular in net, while Matt Lorito and Joseph Blandisi each had three points for the Albany Devils, who defeated the Springfield Falcons, 4-0, Friday in front of a charged up crowd at Times Union Center. The Devils improved on their franchise best start as they improved to 9-3-3-0.
Danis stopped all thirty shots for his second shutout of the season and extended the Devils' point streak to eight games.
Offensively, Paul Thompson, Lorito, Blandisi and Mike Sislo each scored. Seth Helgeson had two assists.
The Devils relied heavily on Danis throughout the first two periods when they were outshot 26-15. Danis made spectacular saves look regular throughout the game. In the first, he made a sliding side-to-side pad save on a two-on-one, denying Greg Carey.
The second period saw more of the same as Danis had a quick glove save early and finished the period by stopping Lucas Lessio on the breakaway.
Thompson opened up the scoring with a power-play goal at 14:09 of the first period. Thompson received a pass in the near side corner from Helgeson and fired on net from just above the goal line. The puck hit goaltender Louis Domingue's skate and went in.
The Falcons had three first period power-plays but strong penalty killing, goaltending and a lucky bounce off a Springfield stick that had been dropped in the crease kept them off the score sheet.
The Devils took over in the third, outshooting the Falcons, 13-4, and adding three more goals. Lorito scored at 5:31 from the circle after a pass from Vojtech Mozik at the point. Blandisi found the back of the net a few minutes later on the rush at 9:54 and Sislo added a power play goal at 18:34 to finish the game, 4-0.
Lorito and Blandisi continue to climb the rookie scoring leaderboards. Both entered the night in the top ten and both picked up a goal and two assists.
Albany returns to play on Saturday at 5 pm at Times Union Center against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.
